Glass Railing FAQs in Denver Metro

We hear these a lot. So, we figured we'd put the answers right here to save everyone some time.

Do you work with builders on new construction?

Yes. Fast Glass partners with contractors across the Denver metro to supply new construction glass that meets project specifications, deadlines, and safety requirements, from walls and partitions to windows and railings.

In Denver homes, every panel in a guard or railing counts as a hazardous location, whatever its size, so it has to pass the code’s safety-glazing impact test. The residential code doesn’t name tempered or laminated for guards, but structural glass balusters can skip the top rail only when they’re laminated with two or more equal plies of the same glass type. On commercial projects, the code goes further and calls for laminated glass, with a narrow exception for single fully tempered glass where there’s no walking surface below or that surface is permanently protected from falling glass. Codes vary across the metro, and your city’s building department has the final say.
